On April 22, Malawi’s First Lady Monica Chakwera hosted over 200 street-connected children at Kamuzu Palace to mark the International Day for Street-Connected Children. The event offered the children a rare moment of care and dignity, away from their daily struggles with homelessness, abuse, and neglect.Malawi now has over 15,000 street-connected children, up from 5,000 in 2017. Through her foundation, Chakwera urged collective action to support these children with education, healthcare, and protection. Government and charity leaders echoed the call for stronger support systems to break the cycle of vulnerability.
