SEXUAL REPRODUCTIVE HEALTH

Malawi continues to face high rates of adolescent pregnancy, driven by early childbearing and child marriage. Girls aged 15–24 account for nearly 40% of all births, with almost one in three girls aged 15–19 already beginning childbearing. Child marriage remains widespread, with 42% of girls married before age 18.

Adolescent pregnancy is a major public health and development challenge, contributing to 15% of maternal deaths and worsening preventable complications such as hemorrhage, sepsis, and unsafe abortions. These challenges reflect persistent barriers to sexual and reproductive health information and services, including limited access to youth-friendly care, harmful social norms, and policy gaps.

In response, we implement targeted interventions that empower women to make re-useable menstrual pads for girls through menstrual health and hygiene projects, provide age-appropriate sexual and reproductive health information, prevent teenage pregnancy, and advance advocacy to end gender-based violence—empowering girls to protect their health, rights, and futures.
