First Lady Madame Monica Chakwera has said Malawi is championing women and girls’ rights to close the gender gaps in education, health, and economic empowerment in the country, creating an equal society for all. Madame Chakwera made these remarks during the #WeAreEqual campaign summit organized by the Organisation of African First Ladies for Development (OAFLAD) in New York on the sidelines of the 78th United Nations General Assembly. She said that through her foundation, Shaping Our Future, Chakwera launched the #WeAreEqual Campaign in Malawi, with a focus on equal opportunities in education for girls. She added that Malawi’s current leadership is committed to empowering women and girls through education.
