Bursary Saves A Girl From Early Marriage

Grace Munthali nearly dropped out of school and considered early marriage due to poverty and her father’s death. Her life changed when the Shaping Our Future Foundation (Soff), led by Malawi’s First Lady Monica Chakwera, began funding her education.

Now in Form Four, Grace shared her story during a visit by international donors supporting the Girls Education for Empowerment (GEE) initiative. The programme helps vulnerable girls stay in school by providing financial and emotional support.

The First Lady highlighted poverty, long distances to school, and harmful cultural practices as major barriers to girls’ education in Malawi. GEE and Soff are working to change that by giving girls hope, dignity, and access to education
